Camarillo Skyway Playhouse has recently reached out to us and supplied us with some information on their new show that's opening soon, and a call for auditions for their next show. As we mention in our first Podcast episode (coming soon) I think it's really great that Camarillo knows their talent pool- there are lots of very talented women out here fighting for limited roles- with so many theatres are producing male heavy shows, it's a very smart move by the team at SCP to offer up shows with great female parts. The role of Tom/Phyllis/Leslie sounds like a BLAST. Anyone who can tackle 3 different people in a small show like this has a chance of stealing the show.
Here are the details
CAMARILLO SKYWAY PLAYHOUSE PROUDLY PRESENTS
FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS By Alan Ball
Directed by Brian Robert Harris Produced by Jolyn Johnson
In Academy Award Winner Alan Ball’s ("True Blood", "Six Feet Under") hilarious comedy, "Five Women Wearing the Same Dress", five very different bridesmaids find themselves hiding together in an upstairs bedroom, hoping to escape the wedding reception of a bride that -- they soon realize -- none of them really like! There is Meredith, the rebellious little sister of the bride; Frances a highly religious, but sweet cousin; Mindy, a blunt, good-hearted lesbian who is the sister of the groom; Georgeanne, a friend from high school whose marriage is falling apart; and Trisha, a jaded beauty whose pessimism and doubts about men are proved false when she meets Tripp Davenport, an usher at the wedding. In this cramped bedroom above the wedding, these five identically dressed women talk, laugh, argue, cry, console one another, and slowly become friends.
"An irreverent and funny look at the intricacies of friendship and the power of similar dressing. "…[a] wonderfully entertaining play…" —NY Post. "FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS is a fresh-as-a-daisy comedy, funny as can be…" —NY Daily News. "Ball has the comic writer's requisite talent for dialogue that ricochets snappily around the stage." —TheaterWeek.

CAMARILLO SKYWAY PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR SYLVIA
By A.R. Gurney
Directed by Kimberly Demmary Produced by Jolyn Johnson Stage Managed by Stephanie Rice
“Sylvia” is a smart, silly, sophisticated and occasionally salty comedy about the relationship between man and wife, dog owner and dog, nature, and growing older.
SYNOPSIS: Greg, tired of his job in finance, is looking for meaning in life. Sylvia, a dog, is an exuberant and beautiful lab/poodle mix, astray in Central Park, looking for a new home. When they meet, it’s love at first sight. But his wife Kate is less than thrilled by the dog who jumps, slobbers, piddles on the floor, sits on the couch, and takes Greg’s attention. Greg’s friend Tom warns him of splintering effect a dog can have on the relationship between husband and wife. Only when Greg is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice is Kate able to see Sylvia not as a threat, but as a new member of her family.
Auditions will be held Sunday, February 4 and Monday, February 5 between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM both nights. Email Producer Jolyn Johnson at email@example.com to make your audition appointment as we will be holding closed auditions. Walk-ins are allowed, but will be accommodated after the scheduled appointments, so appointments are greatly preferred. Callbacks will be held Wednesday, February 7 at 7:00 PM. Sides will be available on our website located here: http://skywayplayhouse.org/current-audition-notices/auditions-for-sylvia/ . Please bring a headshot/resume and list of any and all possible conflicts for the rehearsal period. No conflicts will be accepted for tech week or any performances.

ROLES: Sylvia – Age: 25-50 All Ethnicities (Lead) A dog played by a woman. Good comedic timing and improv skills necessary. Lively and expressive “labradoodle”, cute, bouncy and occasionally flirtatious. Though she does not move on hands and knees for the entire play, this is an extremely high energy, physical role (Please dress comfortably to allow for movement at auditions).
Greg – Age: 45-60 All Ethnicities (Lead) Displays a wide range of quiet male emotion; mild-mannered, he loves his suddenly-adopted dog Sylvia but seems to be going through an early midlife crisis in his work and his marriage.
Kate – Age: 45-60 All Ethnicities (Supporting) Greg’s wife is a strong woman whose teaching career is on an upswing; with her children away in college, she is looking forward to working on her career without the family restrictions and has little use for Greg’s issues and even less for his newfound best friend, Sylvia
Tom/Phyllis/Leslie 25-45 All Ethnicities (Supporting) Characters are played by a single actor. Tom is a regular macho guy who educates Greg about dog ownership. Phyllis is a hotshot Manhattanite, Kate’s friend from College, and is prone to drinking and drama. Leslie is a psychotherapist whose gender is open to question.
